This is Old House Cottage attached to The Old House in the mid-Devon village of Bampton. Available for short lets and holiday breaks. It is primarily intended for two adults (set up either as a double or two twin) but can also accommodate a small non-crawling baby in the travel cot provided and an occasional extra adult by using the sofa-bed. Well behaved pets are also welcome.
You’re well placed for both north and south Devon coasts, and Exmoor, Dartmoor, the scenic mid Devon countryside and the Somerset Levels are all within easy reach. A little further, but still an easy drive, are Dorset and Cornwall. Mid Devon has many attractions of its own, but this is a great base for exploring the South West.
Here are some of the ways you might spend your day –
- surfing at Woolacombe
- sunbathing on the English Riviera
- visiting the Eden Project
- strolling through “New Age” Totnes
- rambling over Dartmoor
- walking and wild life spotting on Exmoor
- exploring Glastonbury and the Somerset Levels
- visiting historic Exeter
- seeing the many lovely gardens roundabout, including the RHS garden at Rosemoor
You’ll be able to stroll into Bampton and have an evening meal, at one of the four pubs that serve food, if you don’t feel like cooking yourself. What’s more the next morning the papers and croissants are less than 5 minutes away.
As for the cottage itself, it’s very cosy inside with nice modern furniture, an inglenook fireplace with log burning stove and “granddad niche”. It also has full oil-fired central heating and hot water from its own combi boiler. Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen/living area; the kitchen part is fully equipped and has electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and washing machine. The sitting area has satellite TV/radio and a DVD/CD player. The shower room/WC is also on the ground floor. The bedroom upstairs (all bed-linen and towels are provided) is a large dual aspect room with great views and a really nice relaxing feel. And for a baby there is a cot, high-chair and stair-guard.
The cottage has Wifi internet access with a rather elderly laptop provided, (but bring your own if you want more than browsing and web based email). Outside there is private parking and exclusive use of a small lawn and terrace with furniture provided. Although you are very welcome to use other parts of the gardens.
