The
Old House Cottage
|
![]() |
This is Old House Cottage attached to The Old House in the mid-Devon village of Bampton, available for holiday lets and short breaks. It is primarily intended for two adults (set up either as a double or two twin) but can also accommodate a small non-crawling baby in the travel cot provided and an extra adult by using the sofabed. Well behaved pets are also welcome.
The cottage is on the edge of Bampton which is a large village (or maybe small town) surrounded by farmland to the south east of Exmoor on the Devon/Somerset border near Tiverton. It's a secluded spot but only five minutes walk away up a narrow lane from the shops and amenities of the village where you can meet all your day to day needs. Bampton has 3 pubs, all of which do meals, 1 restaurant, 1 cafe/bistro, 2 small supermarkets, a butcher who sources his meat locally, a baker, a greengrocer, Post Office and cashpoints. It's a regular winner in the Britain in Bloom competition and is a mass of flowers from Spring to Autumn.
You're well placed for both north and south Devon coasts, and Exmoor, Dartmoor, the scenic mid Devon countryside and the Somerset Levels are all within easy reach. A little further, but still an easy drive, are Dorset and Cornwall. Mid Devon has many attractions of its own, but this is a great base for exploring the South West. Here are some of the ways you might spend your day -

you'll be able to stroll into Bampton and have an evening meal if you don't feel like cooking yourself. What's more the next morning the papers and freshly baked croissants are less than 5 minutes away.
As for the cottage itself, it's very cosy inside with nice modern furniture, an inglenook fireplace with log burning stove and "grandad niche". It also has full oil-fired central heating and hot water from its own combi boiler. Downstairs there is an open plan kitchen/living area; the kitchen part is fully equipped and has electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and washing machine. The sitting area has satellite TV/radio, DVD/CD player and Wifi internet access (there's even a rather elderly laptop, but bring your own if you want more than browsing and e-mail). The shower room/WC is also on the ground floor. The bedroom upstairs is a large dual aspect room with great views and a really nice relaxing feel.
Outside there is private parking and exclusive use of a small lawn and terrace with furniture provided. Although you of course can use any part of the large garden, including BBQ area, that you wish.
